Xaghra is a village on Gozo, located north of the capital, Victoria. Potentially the oldest inhabited place on Gozo, Xaghra is oozing with a mysterious history and charm. This is where you'll find the world-renowned Ggantija megalithic temples, the Xaghra Stone Circle and underground caves such as Ninu's Cave.

Beyond the rampant history and culture, Xaghra also has excellent access to Ramla, arguably the best beach on Gozo. Other nearby attractions include the resort of Marsalforn, the busiest on Gozo, and Ghajn Barrani, a protected area of gorgeous clifftop wilderness.

Xaghra is the third largest village on Gozo after the capital, Victoria and Nadur. With superb access to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Ggantija Temple Complex, made up of two Neolithic stone temples dating way back to 3600BC, you're in for a hint of the magical if you choose Xaghra as a base for your holiday to Gozo. On your way up to the Ggantija Temple Complex you'll likely pass the Ta'Kola Windmill, an 18th century windmill that was in action all the way into the late 1980s.

Ramla Bay and the red-sand beach that lines it is one of the best beaches on Gozo. Surrounded by rolling sand dunes, minimum development and a huge expanse of wilderness, you won't be able to get enough of the fantastic Ramla Beach. On the end of the beach you'll find Calypso's Cave, which provides a mythlogical aura and a stunning view to boot.

Hidden in two otherwise unsuspecting parts of central Xaghra lie Xerri's Grotto and Ninu's Cave, two underground complexes where you can see some crazy stalagmite and stalactite action.

Ramla Bay and beach are, quite frankly, stunning. In peak season the beach gets busy, but once you're there you'll understand why. The sand is soft, the waters are warm and calm, and the scents of the endemic flora provide you with that holiday atmosphere. To get a bird's-eye view, head to Calypso's Cave and read a little about the legend of the cave. We won't spoil it for you, but we can tell you the view is fantastic.
