Billed as a Gumbet hotel, you’ll probably recognise the Palm Garden’s home town, Bodrum, more readily. Gumbet’s just a couple of kilometres from the centre of the vibrant, historic resort that’s the main draw on this beautiful coast.
Built around a large pool complex, the Palm Gardens Hotel – and there are lots of palms – has a lot of outdoor space. It doesn’t have a beach-front location, but the sea’s just down the road and you’ll find an array of facilities to enjoy without leaving your sunbed.
If you do choose to stir yourself, then there are plenty of ways to work up a sweat at the Palm Garden, including a tennis court and gym. Once you’ve got that out of your system, then relax in style with Turkish bath, sauna, spa and massage facilities. Kids have their own playground and a kids’ club to go wild in. When the sun sets, there’s adult entertainment on offer around the complex, with karaoke shows in a stylish lobby bar. More practical facilities include laundry and ironing services, access to medical care, and babysitting services.
Bodrum is the biggest and best resort on Turkey’s Aegean coast. It’s got a real sense of style to it, especially around its smart marina. History is rarely far away in Turkey, most obviously in Bodrum in the shape of its Castle of St Peter, home to the unique Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Gumbet’s main entertainments are pretty low key, with a real emphasis on water sports and boat trips. The Greek islands of Kos and Rhodes are both within reach of this part of the Turkish coast for day trippers.
Bodrum has the weather to make it an attractive year-round destination and the attractions to make any visit entertaining. The Palm Garden – available now at great prices through Loveholidays.com – is a great base from which to explore this coast.
Turkey has seen some troubles in recent years – though none in this part of the country – and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office currently advises taking some common sense precautions when you visit. Please check the latest FCO advice before you travel.
