Where to Stay
As the largest town on the island of Thassos, you are spoilt for choice with all your accommodation options here. The town – also known as Limenas to the locals – is the major hub of the island, and you can stay in hotels in the heart of it all, or in those found right on the beach in nearby Glifada, one of the two main beaches in the area. Go a bit farther afield to hilltop villas with stunning views overlooking the harbour and town centre with a swimming pool for those days when you want to change things up. Wherever you choose to lay your head on holidays to Thassos Town, you can rest well knowing you are only moments away from the city centre and golden beaches.
Out and About in Thassos Town
With so much to see and plenty of things to do on Thassos Town holidays, it can be difficult to choose what to do first. The town’s beach has been awarded Blue Flag status, and is dotted with sun loungers for sunning, and cafés and tavernas for afternoon snacks and mezes. The water is shallow and perfect for small children, while the nearby Makryammos Beach over the hill is perfect for a family beach outing. Check out old-school Thassos with a visit to the incredible ancient agora on the eastern end of the town by the port, and simply start exploring. You can still see the outlines of ruined buildings from a couple thousand years ago, but the crown jewel is the ancient theatre. If you time your visit right you can see modern productions of ancient comedies and dramas in the annual Thassos Festival. From here you can visit the archaeological museum next door to see some interesting artefacts from the island’s history. As the island is relatively round and small in size, on holidays in Thassos Town you can easily catch a bus to the small villages and gorgeous beaches in the south and east, or even take a ferry to the northwest part of the island at Ormos Prinou. Grab your hiking shoes and trek up Mount Ypsario, or sit back and enjoy the view of the peak from the lovely villages of Panagia or Potomia.
