Your guide to St Michael holidays
St Michael is home to some of the most beautiful beaches on Barbados, from lively Carlisle Bay, with its fantastic facilities for water sports and boat excursions, to gorgeous Batts Rock Beach, a secluded slice of paradise. You could explore the historic attractions of downtown Bridgetown and the Garrison district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you’ll find beautiful architecture, fascinating museums, an historic horse-racing track and cricket ground, and a host of shops and cafés. You might also fancy joining a tour of a rum distillery (which includes tastings!), or heading out to the Pelican Craft Village to pick up some local souvenirs.
The parish of St Michael is located in the south west corner of Barbados, and boasts a fabulous array of beaches. Like most beaches on the west coast of the island, these feature brilliant white sand, and intensely blue, calm waters. Closest to the centre of Bridgetown are Brandon’s Beach, Brighton Beach and Carlisle Bay, all of which have plenty of facilities and attract large crowds. For a little more peace and quiet, you should make for the relatively secluded beaches at Paradise Beach which adjoins Batts Rock Beach. You’ll be able to enjoy some excellent snorkelling and diving along this stretch of stunning coastline (Carlisle Bay alone has 6 fantastic wreck dive sites), along with a host of other water-based activities, from water-skiing to para-sailing.
