The Vista de Rey Hotel is a small, pleasantly designed apartment complex in up-and-coming Benalmadena, Torremolinos’ younger, smarter, sister resort. It’s got a quiet location with good beach access and while it is self-catered it also comes with plenty of hotel-style extras combined with a very welcoming price tag.
Built around a courtyard swimming pool, Vista de Rey is a pretty building that’s a long way from the typical Costa apartment block. Its traditional look belies very modern studio apartments inside, with sleeping for up to four people and a furnished balcony for all those al fresco meals. A kitchen which includes a fridge, ceramic hob and microwave will keep you dining-in happily enough but the complex also has access to a nearby restaurant for meals.
A 24-hour reception will help you sort out any practical questions during your stay. Air conditioning in all rooms helps keep the temperature down and there is free Wi-Fi in the complex, which is non-smoking throughout.
The hotel is not located in the heart of Benalmadena, but in the suburb of Torremuelle. It’s possible to walk to the beaches, marina and family attractions of Benalmadena though, and the apartments are opposite the town’s train station, which will whisk you to exciting Malaga, neighbouring Torremolinos, or fun Fuengirola quickly and cheaply.
You won’t struggle for things to do both in and around the resort, starting with tennis on site or golf within 3km of the apartments. There’s a huge range of beaches – around 12 – in Benalmadena, offering a range of facilities and atmospheres. The marina is smart and stylish and a good spot to go for lunch or dinner.
The town is big on family attractions, including the Tivoli World theme park, a cable car ride, a big Sea Life aquarium, and the Parque Paloma animal sanctuary. There’s also a casino close to the hotel for grown-ups who feel lucky.
Staying away from the busiest part of the resort might mean you’ll walk a little further on your break, but Vista de Rey gives great value and will offer guests peace and quiet and very good facilities for their money.
