Introducing holidays to Soufriere

Shaped like a droplet sitting in the Carribbean Sea, St. Lucia is one of the most beautiful and sought-after holiday destinations on the planet. One of the largest of the Carribbean islands that were formed millennia ago by volcanic processes, St. Lucia is famous for its breathtaking mountainous scenery, hot springs, golden sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and hot tropical climate. Soufriere – St. Lucia’s old capital – is located on its western coast and is the perfect base for exploring this unique and magical island, with excellent transport links to all the major attractions.

An old and typically St. Lucian town, Soufriere is notable for its colonial-era architecture, brightly painted wooden storefronts and a bustling seafront. The landscape surrounding Soufriere is nothing short of breathtaking, with two huge towers of rock known as the Pitons, standing tall over the town, and lush, tropical vegetation as far as the eye can see.

As one of the major islands of the Caribbean, St. Lucia has become famous for its unique style of cuisine, and Soufriere – one of its largest towns – has a multitude of excellent restaurants to explore along the town’s seafront that sell the best in local food. There are also plenty of Rum Shacks around the town that sell snacks and – of course – authentic, locally produced Caribbean spiced rum!

Life’s A Beach

There’s really no better surroundings in which to relax and let your troubles melt away than on one of St. Lucia’s many beaches, lapping up the hot sun, surrounded by luscious tropical forests, hearing the quiet lapping of the Caribbean sea against the shore in the distance.

One of the closest beaches to Soufriere town is Anse Chastanet. Nestled beneath the Piton Mountains, this beach is well sheltered and has crystal clear waters that are perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling, with a scuba diving centre on site. The small black-sanded beach of Anse Mamin is also nearby, accessible from Anse Chastanet by a rocky path beneath the cliffs. Anse Chastanet is also surrounded by almost 12 kilometres of woodland trails, which lead you up into the surrounding mountains, over footbridges and waterfalls.

There is also the aptly named Sugar Beach just a short drive south from Soufriere, which boasts a large expanse of white sand and is situated directly beneath one of the awe-inspiring Piton Mountains. This provides the ultimate in picturesque backdrops for sunbathing on the beach and watching the sun set into the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Top Attractions

The twin Piton Mountains – St. Lucia’s iconic landmarks – are situated not far from Soufriere and are tourist attractions in their own right; visitors can walk up into the mountains via one of the many forest tracks if they wish to take a closer look.

There are also some Sulphur Springs nearby (from which Soufriere gets its name) that are well worth a visit. Dubbed the world’s only drive-through volcano, visitors can drive right up to the edge of the springs, where the water boils up from the ground at a temperature of 170 degrees Celsius – a sight that’s not to be missed!
