Sunny Sierra Nevada

Translated as ‘snowy range’, Sierra Nevada is a dramatic mountain range found in Spain’s southern Almeria and Granada provinces. The area is home to one of Europe’s most southern ski resorts, making it the ideal blend of great skiing with copious sunshine and warm weather.

With crisp white snow, glorious sunshine and fantastic places to stay, skiing holidays to Sierra Nevada have it all. Thanks to its position in Granada, holidaymakers can enjoy the sun on their faces, perfect powder beneath their skis and dramatic mountain views at this resort. With skiing and snowboarding courses to suit all abilities and fantastic après-ski for all types of travellers, whether it be sipping hot chocolate around a fire or partying in the nearby bars and clubs, there’s plenty to fall in love with.

Holidays in Sierra Nevada aren't just about snow and après-ski though; in the summer months there is a rich, lush landscape to explore. Walk through forests, cycle past waterfalls or picnic by glacial lakes. For a full day experience, take the whole family on a horse-riding lesson through the lush green landscape.

The area has plenty of sights to see as well, from 14th century merchant buildings to the famous Alhambra, a historical red-bricked palace and fortress. Take some time to explore the beautiful Alpujarra region with its traditional villages and verdant olive groves – you won’t be disappointed!

If snow is what you came for, then Sierra Nevada will provide. Head off-piste and try cross-country skiing, or hire an instructor and you'll be slaloming like a pro in no time. Go ice-skating with friends, or perhaps even try an archery lesson. The kids are always catered for here too, with plenty for them to enjoy including tobogganing and snowmobile rides.

Ski and Sleep in Style

From all-out luxurious 5-star hotels to self-catering apartments and 3-star style, there are hotels and accommodation to suit every traveller and every budget.

A hotel in the centre of the resort means that after a day of slaloming down mountains, you can relax and unwind in the comfort of a sauna before indulging in a massage from an in-house masseuse.

Big families or groups of friends should particularly consider a self-catering apartment during their time at the resort. Those looking to throw themselves into the nightlife of Sierra Nevada with as much energy as they tackle the ski runs during the day should consider a hotel tucked right into the mountainside. The ski lifts and the night clubs will only ever be steps from your door if you stay in the mountain resorts, meaning you will never be far from the action, whatever time of the night or day.

A Holiday to Remember

Sierra Nevada holidays have something to offer everyone. From families learning to ski together to groups of friends racing down the runs, all kinds of ski lovers will feel right at home here. The crisp, white powder, sunny skies and excellent ski courses make this the perfect place for an active getaway to remember.

For those looking to relax, however, there are plenty of cafés where you can gaze out at the awe-inspiring mountainscape while sipping warming drinks before a roaring fire. Finish off your perfect day by enjoying a horse-drawn sled through the dazzling landscape.

Adrenaline junkies will love the opportunities to paraglide and rock climb, but most of all, the black piste runs are sure to get your blood pumping. You can even enjoy a romantic night walk up Sierra Nevada's second highest mountain, the Veleta, to experience some incredible views.

Whether your idea of a perfect evening is playing pool with friends, dancing the night away or enjoying a relaxed dinner with loved ones, holidays to Sierra Nevada have it all.
