With its glittering white sands and cool blue waters, holidays to Rockley are a glimpse into paradise. A quiet neighbourhood in Barbados’ Christ Church, it’s an ideal spot for rest and relaxation, while you’re never too far away from the hustle and bustle of bigger beach towns. Just down the road is the capital of Bridgetown with its endless historic attractions, while laid-back holiday hotspot St. Lawrence Gap is just a short jaunt away. If you’re looking for the chance to soak up the sunshine, embrace the cool culture of the Caribbean or even take in a round of golf, you’re in the right place.
Rockley is a great destination for families and couples alike, providing plenty of opportunity for fun in the sun. 300-metres of white sand edged by the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea serve as a perfect place for little ones to paddle, while barefoot beach bars are ideal for adults.
Rockley Beach is likely to be the centre point of your trip away. Known to the locals as Accra Beach, it’s in a palm-tree clad setting and offers up something for everyone on holidays to Rockley. Fancy embracing a wealth of water sports? There’s everything from boogie boarding to water skiing and snorkelling on the seafront – perfect for keen beginners or seasoned pros. Try a spot of snorkelling on your getaway and you could end up with more than you bargained for. While underwater is home to a myriad of marine life, keep your eyes peeled for giant turtles swimming through the crystal clear sea. There’s also a shallow lagoon area providing a safe place for little ones, while on-the-beach bars will provide you with food on the go and tropical rum cocktails if you can be persuaded.
Top of your list for holidays to Rockley should be to sample its mouth-watering Caribbean cuisine. The coastal road that runs through the town is known as Highway 7 by the locals, and is even better known as being a firm foodie hotspot. Dip into restaurants serving up delicious Bajan and Creole cuisines, or linger in a café over a cooling cocktail.
If you fancy a spot of shopping, why not head to the Quayside Centre? The main retail hub in Rockley, it stocks the usual gifts of clothing and beachwear, mingled with craft shops selling souvenirs like pottery and wood carvings. Head to nearby Broad Street for a dose of sophistication – this area is jam-packed with designer wears and even includes a Tiffany & Co. store for all your jewellery needs.
Come sundown, Rockley’s one of the quieter resorts and you won’t find much past cool cocktail bars and laid-back restaurants. Instead, take a trip to St Lawrence Gap and immerse yourself in the captivating culture of Barbados. The area known simply as ‘The Gap’ is a stretch of road packed full of bars and clubs, making it a favourite with night owls. Don’t peak too early though – clubs don’t generally open until 11pm.
