Introducing holidays to Peschiera
Located at the southernmost point of Lake Garda sits Peschiera del Garda. This pretty and historic town is ideal for a relaxing getaway whilst also being a stone’s throw away from some absolutely amazing sights and activities. The resort promises dazzling sunshine when you are walking along its beautiful shingle beaches, but make sure to take a quick breather and watch the gorgeous sunset over Lake Garda.
The town has amazing weather all year round; with hot summers and mild winters, it’s a perfect choice no matter which month you choose to visit! Peschiera has a rich history built on Roman ruins, and it’s ideally located for a number of different transport options into the surrounding areas of Italy. Whether it’s Verona, Milan or Venice, Peschiera del Garda would make the perfect base to plan for any exciting day-trips you want to take.
Wine & dine
When somebody mentions Italy most people instantly think of exquisite cuisine and wonderful wine and in that respect Peschiera del Garda does its country proud. The stretch of land reaching Sirmione from Peschiera is called Lugana, and it is well-known in Italy for the production of wine; so much so that it even bears the same name. Lugana wine was one of the first Italian wines bearing a DOC trademark to certify its rich cultural flavour and it really doesn’t disappoint.
While you’re sampling a bottle (or two) of luscious Lugana wine, why not accompany it with some amazing local food? A traditional Lake Garda dish is called ‘I Bigoli con le sarde’, which is homemade spaghetti served with a sauce of sardines; it will leave you thinking of Peschiera long after your last bite! Being next to a lake, Peschiera makes good use of fresh fish and if you want to try a few more dishes, then local favourites like sardines cooked with onions and risotto with tench are sure-fire winners.
A historic town in itself, Peschiera offers many interesting and beautiful sights for you to see during your stay. One of the town’s main sights, The Fortress, dates back to 1400 and has played prominent roles in a number of military campaigns since then. So you can bask in its wonder and learn an interesting history lesson at the same time!
Due to its exemplary location for transport, Peschiera is an ideal base to gallivant around Italy. Only 25 kilometres away from Verona, holidaymakers can encourage their romantic side as they gaze upon the famous balcony from Romeo & Juliet. While you’re there you can also take in the beautiful historical sights and perhaps spend an evening at the opera.
Milan and Venice are two more options which are also easy destinations to reach from Peschiera; day-trips to these two quintessential Italian cities should be very high up on your to-do list. Whether you’re more in tune with the cosmopolitan city of Milan, or magical Venice, one things certain; Peschiera is the perfect place to return to when you want to rest your weary feet.
