Introducing holidays to Parga Town
Dreaming of a sunny Greek getaway? Looking for stunning scenery, fantastic beaches and friendly tavernas? Try Parga Town, a beautiful former fishing village nestled among the mountains on the north-west coast of Greece. This blissful destination is popular with Greek holidaymakers and feels a million miles away from the stresses and hassles of home. The town itself is built on a scenic harbour, where colourful fishing boats, luxury yachts and tourist cruises come and go on a daily basis. Not far from this harbour, you’ll find beautiful golden beaches complete with beach bars and water sports. Parga Town is a charming mix of modern luxury, with some beautiful ocean-facing hotels, and the traditional, with its whitewashed buildings and their terracotta roofs. The narrow winding streets are lined with lively bars and tavernas for a great Greek night out - and the views out to the sparkling Ionian Sea, dotted with tiny islands, are truly breathtaking.
Life’s a beach
Life in Parga Town revolves around the sea, whether you relaxing next to it, swimming in those warm waters, enjoying some water sports, or heading out on a boat to explore. Parga Town is blessed with a few beautiful beaches, perfect for unwinding in the sunshine. Kryoneri Beach is located in the south of the town and is a family friendly beach and probably the busiest part of Parga. There is an extensive array of water sports available on this sandy shore, including surfing, paragliding, snorkelling or jet-skiing. The smaller and more secluded Piso Kryoneri beach can be found by the rocky headland of the Parga coast. This is the place to be if you're seeking some serious sunshine and scenic views. Head further round the headland and you’ll reach the long golden sands of Valtos Beach, a great spot for safe swimming and enjoying a cold drink in a beachfront taverna.
Parga Town is a scenic town to explore, with attractive architecture and historic sights to see. The impressive Venetian Castle that sits above the town is a must-visit. Admire the castle itself and also breathe in those stunning panoramic views of the town below and the deep blue waters of the bay beyond.
Parga Town’s convenient location means that day trips can easily be made, giving you the chance to explore some more of this beautiful region. Nature lovers can take just a half hour drive from the centre of town to the spectacular Acheron River, an iconic natural landmark where the souls of the dead were believed to be transported to the underworld in ancient Greek mythology. It’s also a great place for some adventure sports, such as river rafting and horse riding, or a lazy day of sunbathing, swimming and picnicking by the river.
Another popular attraction is the ancient Necromanterion Oracle of Ephyra, a 5000-year-old temple where Greek priests would commune with the spirits of the dead. Or get your hiking boots on and explore the Vikos National Park. You can even visit neighbouring Albania or do some island-hopping with a boat trip.
