The biggest draw at Universal Studios Florida is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where you can explore Diagon Alley and get a taste of magical life at Hogwarts.
Exploring the six themed lands at the Magic Kingdom Park is a must for families and grown-ups alike. Don’t miss Cinderella Castle in Fantasyland and Space Mountain in Tomorrowland.
Hop aboard an air-conditioned pod on The Wheel at ICON Park to float some 400ft above Orlando. The views on the 18-minute ride are the city’s best.

Experience lift-off on a NASA-style mission on Mission: SPACE inside Epcot’s geodesic dome. You can choose between a journey to Mars or orbiting the Earth.
Blending 4K animations and 3D experiences, the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal is a feast for the senses. Get ready to meet some of Marvel’s most famous characters as you do battle with the bad guys.
The twists, turns and theming on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad combine to create Disney’s inimitable magic. Rattling around this abandoned mine shaft is a must.
You’ll need nerves of steel for the Ko’okiri Body Plunge at Universal's Volcano Bay. After falling through a trapdoor, you’ll plunge some 125 feet down this vertiginous waterslide.

Art and culture in Orlando

Even if you come for the parks, you might find the city’s museums and galleries are the highlight of your holiday to Orlando.

Visit the Wells’ Built Museum of African American History and Culture to learn more about little-told moments in Black history in Orlando.
Temporary exhibitions and events keep things lively at the Orlando Museum of Art. Since it was founded in 1924, the museum has championed local artists with accessible and engaging shows.
At the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art you can explore works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, including jewellery, paintings and even a restored Byzantine-Romanesque chapel interior designed in 1893.
The Mennello Museum of American Art was opened in 1998 and houses a permanent collection of paintings by Earl Cunningham. There’s also a small small sculpture garden.
Head to Winter Park to spend the afternoon at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens, set in the intriguing home of Czech sculptor Albin Polasek.

Outdoor adventures in Orlando

Holidays to Orlando aren’t complete without getting out into the great outdoors. After days queuing in the parks, an afternoon hiking, biking or kayaking is the perfect antidote.

Adventure starts in the city. You can bike or walk the West Orange Trail, which stretches for 22 miles along an old railroad track through the heart of Orlando.
Beautiful Wekiwa Springs State Park is on Orlando’s northern fringes. You can hire canoes or kayaks to paddle on the Wekiwa River or swim in the crystal-clear Wekiwa Springs.
Meet Florida’s famous alligators and croc at Gatorland, where the swamps and ponds protect vegetation native to the state. You can even zipline over a gator marsh.
You’ll need to head a little further out of the city to reach the wild swamps proper, where you can skim across the water on adrenaline-packed airboat tours.
Good with heights? At the Orlando Tree Trek Adventure Park you can swing, climb and zip between soaring pines on tree-top adventure courses for all ages.

The family fun on Orlando breaks doesn’t stop when you leave the big parks. These are a few of the city’s other highlights.

There’s a focus on education at Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Little ones can get involved in feeding the giraffes and learn more about conservation at the regular keeper chats and animal encounters.
The hands-on attractions at WonderWorks include science exhibits and a sound and light zone. Kids can play a giant piano by jumping from key to key, lie on a bed of nails or even become a human lightning rod.
Aquatica Orlando has scooped numerous awards for its thrilling waterslides. Even if you do little more than relax on the lazy rivers, this waterpark is a great day out for all the family.
Expect costumed actors as well as full-scale room recreations at Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition on International Drive. Allow at least a few hours to explore.
Hire a car to visit the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, less than an hour’s drive from downtown Orlando. Highlights include the Astronaut Training Experience and U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.

Nightlife in Orlando

After the sun sets, Orlando holidays really get going – whether you’re partying in the parks or the city.

Orlando’s best city bars are downtown, where you’ll find everything from speakeasy-style cocktail joints to elegant lounge bars.
Even kids can stay up late for the Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show, where you’ll be wowed with impersonations and tricks from master magician Tony Brent.
Universal CityWalk, the park’s Epicenter of Awesome, stays lively well into the night with the park’s biggest range of bars and restaurants.
Orlando has a thriving comedy club scene. Some spots, such as SAK Comedy Lab, offer laughs for all the family. Shows at Bonkerz Comedy Club are designed for over-18s only.
The entertainment hub of Disney Springs is outside the parks proper, so you can just come for an evening. There’s even a 1920s-style jazz club, The Edison.

Food & Drink

You’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to great food and drink on holidays in Orlando.

For fresh fruit, veg and baked goods, stop by the Winter Park Farmers' Market. It takes place every Saturday morning and is as much a place to see and be seen with a coffee as do your grocery shopping.
Orlando has a handful of good craft beer breweries and microbreweries. Dead Lizard Brewing Company, Orlando Brewing and Redlight, Redlight have some of the best taprooms.
Head to Orlando’s Mills 50 District to see where the locals go to dine out. You’ll find excellent Cuban, Vietnamese and Korean restaurants – as well as live music bars.
There’s even a vineyard just outside downtown Orlando. Lakeridge Winery and Vineyards has been making wine since the 1980s and today offers excellent tours and tastings.
Orlando’s East End Market in the Audubon Park Garden District is the place to come to for gourmet food-hall-style dining. Think farm-to-table cooking, juice bars and lifestyle stores under one roof.

The best restaurants in the parks

If you’re trying to watch your budget on cheap holidays to Orlando, eating in the parks can get expensive, but it’s worth a couple of splurges.

Head to Disney Springs for outposts from big-name chefs and restaurant chains, including STK, the Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill and Wine Bar George, headed up by Master Sommelier George Miliotes.
Hawaii comes to Orlando once a week for the Wantilan Luau at Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal. Hula and fire dancers are the stars of the show.
Potter fans should make sure to stop by the Hog's Head in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where as well as pumpkin juice and wine (for the grown-ups) you can sample a pint of magical butterbeer.
You can dine like a Disney princess inside Cinderella Castle at Cinderella's Royal Table – a fairytale come true with a fine-dining menu to match.
After a romantic waterfront meal at the Boathouse, you can take a spin on a retro dream boat or head off on a guided tour of the lake aboard a land and sea worthy “amphicar”.
