Your guide to Olhao holidays
The fish market in Olhao one of the largest in the Algarve and sells a wide range of seafood including the local favourite - herring. Even if you don't want to buy fish, it is a fascinating place to wander around on your Algarve holiday. The whole port is picture perfect and has an irresistible charm to it. The winding streets and Moorish houses really remind you that this is a traditional part of Portugal while the new promenade that runs through the harbour highlights the modern side of the town.
A number of bars, restaurants and shops have blended beautifully with the old architecture and slow-paced way of life in Olhao, making it a fantastic destination for anyone looking for a bit of culture on a holiday to the Algarve.
As Olhao is a large port it does not have its own beach, however, ferries run regularly to the sandy offshore islands of Culatra and Armona. These beautiful stretches of sand are a great place to relax on your holiday, while a trip to Ria Formosa Nature Reserve is a great place to find wild animals such as flamingos.
