Introducing holidays to Mljet

Looking for an island paradise right here in Europe? The beautiful Adriatic island of Mljet, just off the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, is a stunning destination for a relaxing holiday. With thick pine forests, deep blue lagoons, saltwater lakes and magnificent beaches, Mljet is a bona fide beauty spot. Development has been kept to a minimum and much of the island is made up of protected National Park, giving the island an unspoilt feel that is perfect for getting away from it all and really relaxing. While the spectacular scenery is at the heart of a holiday to Mlini, the island offers other attractions, such as ancient churches and monasteries, and boat trips to the mainland to enjoy the lively city of Dubrovnik. No matter what your interests, from sunbathing to sports, you're sure to find something to captivate you on this magical island!

Life’s a beach

The island of Mljet has plenty of beaches to choose from. Most are small pebbly coves, or rocky swimming spots but you’ll also find a large stretch of golden sands at Saplunara. Located in the southeast of the island, the beach is a stunner. Surrounded by pine forests and natural park, you can enjoy soft sands, clear sparkling waters and spectacular views out to sea. Watch sailboats drift by, explore the nature and wildlife in the forests or get your goggles out and discover the colourful marine life that lives underneath these warm, clean waves. Mljet’s inland beaches are also a must-visit. The island’s two vast saltwater lakes are spectacular, with deep blue waters and some interesting sights, such as the Islet Melita with its dazzling white 12th century Benedictine monastery. The lakes have warmer waters than the sea and are popular with swimmers and sunbathers for many months of the year.

Top attractions

Perhaps surprisingly, given its remote and wild feel, Mljet has some great opportunities for trips and activities. With its inland lakes and beautiful Adriatic Sea surrounding the island, water sports are of course very popular. Sailing is a lovely way to spend the day, giving you the chance to view the island from a different perspective and even visit neighbouring islands. The nearby island of Lokrum is a scenic choice, with exotic botanic gardens and fantastic beaches to enjoy. And nothing can be more romantic than watching the sun set over the waves as you sail back to Mljet. Snorkelling and diving are also popular thanks to the excellent water quality, and swimmers love visiting Odysseus Cave to jump off the cliffs into the deep water for an exhilarating swim. Head inland and find some superb terrain for hiking and cycling during an active break, as well as those picturesque saltwater lakes to have a picnic by.

If you want to experience the bright lights of a city during your holiday, historic Dubrovnik is just across the water. Here you’ll find ancient historical sights, museums and galleries, and a host of shops, bars and restaurants to enjoy. From breath-taking panoramas, head up the Dubrovnik cable car.
