Limassol is Cyprus' largest resort and keeps the pace with its biggest resort competitors, places like Nicosia, the capital, and its partying sister, Ayia Napa. Visit Limassol's old town, steeped in medieval history; visit the narrow streets full of 19th century buildings leading up to the impressive and exclusive Makarios Avenue, where you'll find some of the best shopping in all of Cyprus. For something further back in town, check out the Roman ruins of Amathus, including an amphitheatre.
Just 15km away is where you’ll find Kourion, a great place worth visiting on holidays in Limassol. With stunning views of Curium Beach and the historic House of Achilles and Altar of Apollo, there’s plenty to see for those interested in history and culture.
Of course, if you’re looking for similar destination to Limassol, there are many other beach holidays in the sunshine worth considering. Paphos boasts a stunning coastline with four beaches to discover and Coral Bay with excellent water sports to involve yourself in. Paphos is also home to a range of clubs, restaurants and shops. Alternatively, head to the stunning setting of Ayia Napa for its go-go nightlife.
Life's a Beach
While the main beach in Limassol consists mostly of sand and shingle, it makes for a particularly idyllic place to explore. Just 3km east of Limassol you’ll find the resort of Dassoudi, complete with sand-swept beach, restaurant and a wide selection of water sports. Those travelling with the little ones in tow should head for Lady’s Mile beach for its golden sand and crystal clear waters – perfect for letting the kids splash around.
If you prefer the finer things in life and fancy yourself quite the wine connoisseur, you’ll enjoy savouring the local wines along the beachfront promenades on Limasssol holidays. Produced in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, it makes an excellent accompaniment to meals. Better still, visit in the annual wine festival in August and you’ll have more than enough reasons to sample the goods!
