Things to do in Lake Bled
Whether you’ve made a resolution to be more active in 2018 or to relax more, Lake Bled has everything you need to tailor your holiday just the way you like it. Most attractions in the area revolve around the lake, with a huge selection of water sports and activities available. These include boat trips, lake bathing, swimming, fishing and Pletna boat rides. The non-motorised Pletna boats transport both locals and visitors to the island church in the centre of Lake Bled and depart frequently throughout the day. For those who prefer to stay on dry land, taking a stroll along the system of lakeside paths is an excellent way to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Many people enjoy relaxed days fishing in the lake, or playing a few games of tennis on the nearby tennis courts. Other nearby attractions and resorts include the capital city of Ljubljana, accessible by the local bus system from Bled. There are also trains to the close by town of Jesenice from Bled Jezero station and a tourist train from Bled town centre running every 45 minutes between the times of 9am and 9pm.
One of the most popular and enjoyable ways to enjoy the scenic waters of Lake Bled is to take a Pletna, or motorised boat ride. These quaint rowing boats have been used to transport both locals and visitors for centuries and are as iconic in Slovenia as the gondolas of Venice. You can hire your own rowboat from the Lido swimming area at affordable prices, while the swan shape of the boats makes them a popular choice for families and couples. The lake itself is the ideal venue for a whole host of water-based activities including fishing, swimming and lake bathing, good low-impact activity options for holidaymakers of all ages. The designated public swimming area has 300 metres of enclosed space, a safe swimming area for the elderly, families with children and more inexperienced swimmers. During the summer months, the mercury hovers around 26 degrees Celsius between June and August, providing perfect conditions for a relaxing dip in warm clear waters.
