Your guide to Koukounaries holidays
Although Koukounaries is small it’s home to a fantastic beach where you’ll find lots of water sports and other activities. Try your hand at windsailing, jet-skiing or take a peek into the underwater world with snorkelling. There is also a little harbour here, making the town ideal for those who like to sail. If you prefer to immerse yourself in history the capital of the island, Skiathos Town, is just 20 minutes away by taxi or bus. We recommend the Evangelistria Monastery outside of Skiathos Town, constructed by monks who'd left Mount Athos in Halkidiki after disagreements.
In Skiathos Town you’ll not only find historic attractions and architecture but also shops, restaurants and bars galore. Explore the markets, wander through historic whitewashed streets or head to the bars and clubs for a night of dancing or the chance to discover some live bands.
Koukounaries is home to a beautiful sandy beach which has been awarded Blue Flag status. The waters are clear and clean, perfect for swimming, paddling and snorkelling, with a gently shelving beach making this the ideal place for a holiday with younger children. Sit back and relax on the warm golden sands or rent one of the sun loungers, which stretch for over a kilometre so you don’t need to worry about getting there early to put your towel down. If you’re a more active type try water skiing when the waters are calm in the morning, banana boat rides in the afternoon or rent a boat and spend the day sailing, stopping off for a picnic in one of Skiathos’ many pretty coves.
