Things to do in Jandia
You can actually climb the slopes of the Pico de la Zarza mountain range to see for yourself the stunning views of the island. Be sure to take plenty of water, food and sun cream - this hike takes around five hours and there isn’t much shade! The walk is absolutely worth it if you want to see nature at its best. The vivid flora and tiny green lizards are a wonderful sight when stopping to take a breather.
The town of Playa de Sotavento is just a 20-minute drive from Jandia and, once a year, a windsurfing and kitesurfing competition is held here. This competition is packed with spectators so why not join them? The promenade is lined with some great little cafes and bars where you can stop for a bite to eat away from the heat of the day.
Jandia boasts one of the best beaches in Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands, stretching a whopping 32km along the coast. With a great selection of beach bars and cafes to choose from, you don’t need to worry about going hungry. This beach is ideal for a family day out relaxing in the warm sunshine. Whether you’re paddling in the blue waters of the Atlantic or taking part in one of the many water sports on offer, you will be sure to end the day with a smile on your face.
If you want to find a quieter spot to unwind, you can walk further up the coast, away from the busier parts. Sotavento lagoon floods twice a month for around 4-5 days. It is well worth a visit to see the effects the ocean has in this area. If you fancy getting an all-over tan, there are some nudist beaches in the area too. Check out the tide times whenever you visit the beaches, you don’t want your towel getting soaked!
