Famous as the most southerly town in Europe, Ierapetra's sandy beaches and laid-back pace of life make it the perfect place to get away from it all in the Lasithi Area of Crete. Whether you're looking for a romantic break for two or a fun getaway with friends, holidays in Ierapetra have something for everyone.

A quaint, unspoiled town on the southern coast of Crete, Ierapetra has escaped mass tourism and remained an authentically Greek town with plenty of winding alleys, pavement cafes and historical sights to explore.
Away from the beach, holidays to Ierapetra have plenty to offer. See the elaborate mosque, visit the ancient castle or learn more about the area's fascinating past at the Archaeological Museum. Further afield, you can use Ierapetra as a base for exploring some of Crete's most famous sights; see the Minoan ruins at Knossos, discover the beautiful beaches of Chrissi island or go hiking and walking in the picturesque mountains. And after a long day's sightseeing, you can relax and enjoy all the nightlife Ierapetra has to offer. From traditional tavernas and fantastic restaurants to lively bars and late night discos, there's something to suit every budget and taste. You can visit nearby Koutsounari, or explore the Lasithi area.
Life's a Beach
There are a choice of three beaches within Ierapetra and countless other bays and coves stretching along the coast, meaning that there is plenty of room for everyone to enjoy some sun, sea and sand. You can try your hand at a choice of water sports, hit the beach bars or find your own private spot on a secluded stretch of sand. We recommend Long Beach at the eastern resort of Koutsounari, a lovely stretch of beach if you want to get out of Ierapetra.
