A holiday in Garda offers tourists a complete change from the typical Italian getaway. Gone are the busy cities and hordes of tourists. In their place is lush greenery and beautiful Italian countryside. Italy is a beautiful country, but for some, the Italian passion and the hustle and bustle of the city can be a little daunting. Garda is the perfect Italian getaway for those looking to experience the tranquility of Lake Garda.

Your guide to Garda holidays
Those who love driving will enjoy the Strada della Forra. With every twist and turn the scenery gets more and more beautiful. This is an excellent way to spend a day getting to know the area and taking in the sights. Those feeling slightly more adventurous may even like to make the journey on a motorbike. Sightseeing has never looked more stylish as you sit atop a Vespa.
The southern shore of Garda is dotted with great beaches, and on hot summer days they are the perfect destination for holidaymakers looking to cool down. Sirmione is a postcard perfect town that offers a fairytale-esque atmosphere to visitors. Holidaymakers can explore the town's unique entrance and wander the castle that is surrounded by water.
Bardolino is another quaint location on Lake Garda that visitors must see. The town is also home to Bardolino wine, an excellent take-home souvenir to remember your getaway by. While in Bardolino stop off at the San Severo, the eighth century church houses beautiful frescoes to be admired.
Despite Garda not being located on the coast, holidaymakers can spend their days relaxing on the beautiful beaches of Lake Garda. Around the lake there are stunning beach communities that offer sandy shores and plenty of watersports. Many of the beaches around the lake are smooth, shingle beaches that give visitors an authentic lake experience.
Just south of Lazise, visitors can find one of the three sand beaches. The narrow shore is backed by lush greenery and mountains can be seen in the distance. The sandy shores are perfect for families with young children.
If you want some privacy while sunning yourself on the shoreline, head to Riva on the northern side of the lake; but you may have to look twice to find it. Unlike the ocean, the beaches around Lake Garda do not experience any waves. Anyone looking for surfing will be out of luck. However, visitors can rent jet skis or water ski on the lake during their holiday in Garda.
