If you can tear yourself away from the beach, the village is well-worth a wander with its evocative maze of cobblestones streets, running around the central square, down to the waterfront and uphill from the church. From the church, there are fantastic views across the river of Portimao and Praia da Rocha. In the main square there are an assortment of cafes and restaurants for all tastes.

Ferragudo is the ideal base for walks along the spectacular coastline. Walk to the village of Praia Grande and along the clifftops to a small lighthouse, or towards Carvoeiro for small cove beaches that offer a wonderful sense of seclusion. Most of the cove beaches have a restaurant or snack bar where you can enjoy a refreshing snack or drink.

Life's a Beach

Located on the beautiful Algarve coastline, Ferragudo comes complete with two golden beaches and plenty of sunshine. The closest beach is the smaller Praia da Angrinha, then there’s San Joao de Arade, a wide, sweeping beach with plenty of sunloungers and cafes and a variety of watersports. Sandwiched between these two beaches is the Sao Joao Fort, a privately owned clifftop fortress, overlooking the stunning beaches.
