Introducing holidays to El Toyo
The luxury resort of El Toyo offers an incredible combination of fun-filled activities by the sea and relaxing on the warm sands in the famous Costa de Almeria sunshine. The town was built in 2005 on the immaculate sandy beaches close to the Retamar resort. Until its construction, the beaches were untouched, making them some of the newest beaches in the area. El Toyo is situated next to the nature park of Cabo de Gata and only 13 kilometres from the city of Almeria.
El Toyo has over 35 acres of gardens, an artificial lake and traditional wooden bridges lined with swaying palm trees. The area is ideal for relaxation with numerous cycle trails, a wide beach promenade and exquisitely-crafted wooden beaches looking out over the horizon. The weather in the area is sun-drenched and balmy, providing the perfect conditions for days sprawling out in the sun or splashing about in the sea.
Life’s a beach
As a coastal resort in beautiful Costa de Almeria, El Toyo is renowned for its warm sands and stunning blue waters. As a purpose-built sun, sea and sand resort, El Toyo is designed to be easy on the eye and offer fuss-free entertainment around its most famous feature, its beach. The natural beauty of the area is remarkable, with brilliant blue skies, the waters lapping at the pebbles on the shoreline and a lovely ‘Paseo’, or seafront promenade walkway.
The beach makes the perfect venue for plenty of activities of both the relaxing and exciting variety. If you’re in a laid-back mood, you can laze around in the sun, paddle about in the warm waters or take a stroll along the shoreline. More invigorating activities include swimming, taking a boat trip or snorkelling along the coastline.
As it’s only been around since 2005, El Toyo isn’t steeped in history, but offers a sense of unspoilt beauty and relative seclusion in comparison to many other resort towns. Although many visitors opt to spend the majority of their vacation on the famous beach, there are several unmissable attractions in close proximity to El Toyo that are well worth a visit.
These include the wonderful Monastery of St.Clare, which is both picturesque and immersed in culture and peaceful energy, and the extraordinary Church of our Lady of the Sea. Other recommended attractions close to El Toyo include Almeria Cathedral and the Almeria Archaeological Museum, where you can explore the history of the wider area and admire beautiful artefacts up close.
The wider region around El Toyo beach is also extremely beautiful, with its bright white desert interior and spaghetti-western styled theme park. There are also some fantastic rugged coves nearby which make the ideal venue for spotting some of the area’s incredible wildlife. If you’re a fan of flamingos, you can take a trip to the spectacular Cabo de Gato National Park and watch the hilarious antics of these strikingly colourful birds as they walk the salt lakes.
