A picturesque tower, it was built to defend the harbour and monastery from attack and remains to be enjoyed today. For plenty of entertainment after dark, visit the nearby town of Estoril. Costa da Caparica Couples
Boasting one of the most beautiful coastlines in Portugal, Costa da Caparica enjoys a 30 kilometre long beach, which extends from the mouth of the Tagus River to the Albufeira estuary. The beaches sit against striking white cliffs, many of which are important fossil areas. On the beach you can relax with the sand between your toes, try some water sports, or just take a dip in the sea.
One of the most romantic ways to explore the area is to enjoy a coastal walk along the beach or across the cliff tops. If you wander to the south of the resort you will begin to discover a more peaceful landscape, with sand dunes, beach bars and some serene sandy spots, where you can find your own dreamy setting in the sun.
The shores of Costa da Caparica are ideal for fun nights out, as they are lined with restaurants and bars where you can enjoy some pretty views as you dine al fresco. Many of the beach bars stay open late throughout the summer, with music and dancing for those who want to enjoy a fun filled night out on the sands.
Costa da Caparica Culture
Those who visit Costa da Caparica can easily explore the cultural side to Portugal, as it’s the ideal base for visiting both Lisbon and the surrounding region’s choice of sights and attractions. The city is home to museums such as the National Museum of Ancient Art and the Archaeology Museum, and the area hides some magical sights such as the Queluz National Palace and the Pena National Palace.
The region surrounding the resort is filled with dreamy sights and architectural attractions, such as the Romanticist Pena National Palace and the Manueline Belem Tower. Perched near the shores of Belem is the late Gothic Jeronimos Monastery, which dates right back to the 15th century. The Castle of Sai Jorge is one of the area’s most loved places to visit, and is a Moorish castle that stands above the city of Lisbon.
Portugal’s towns and cities are known for their celebrations and festivals, and Costa da Caparica’s cultural events are the ideal way to soak up the city’s friendly atmosphere. At the beginning of the year the town celebrates its annual festival, and in June the streets come to life in celebration of the local saints. Over the summer you will find a calendar filled with arts, crafts, artisan and book fairs.
Costa da Caparica Family
One of the most fun filled ways of experiencing the town is to head to a camping site with the family. There are several sites found within the area, whether you want to be within easy access of the beach or surrounded by lush countryside. Most of the camping grounds boast amenities such as multi sports courts, children’s playgrounds, restaurants, games rooms and bars, with some even providing accommodation available to rent, so you can forget staying in a tent!
Families will enjoy the friendly atmosphere of Costa da Caparica’s nightlife, with a range of traditional restaurants that offer a warm welcome and a chance to sample some local cuisine. You can take in some beautiful scenery whilst drinking and dining at the beach, with several restaurants and bars lined up along the sands with terraces for al fresco dining over the spring and summer.
You can soak up the bustling town atmosphere at the Costa da Caparica market, which is held twice a week. Here you can pick up some tasty local produce, with fishermen and farmers offering their daily catches and crops. Wander through the town and you will find some charming little shops hiding in the cobbled lanes, or you can head to the large shopping centre that sits just outside the town, which is filled with high street names.
