Known as the home of the happiest place on Earth, you can't go to Anaheim without bumping into some aspect of the magical world of Disney, although being one of the largest cities in Orange County it has plenty of other sights to offer. For the travellers more awed by nature than by Mickey and the gang, there are plenty of stunning views in the nearby canyon area and surrounding hills. The Mediterranean climate means that it’s warm at all times of the year, and with the famous beaches of Orange County on hand, there’s plenty of scope for catching a tan by the Pacific. Downtown Anaheim has a world famous farmer's market and numerous cultural and historical sites. With something for everyone, Anaheim really can lay claim to being the happiest place on Earth.
The main attraction in Anaheim is of course the Anaheim Resort, home to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. There’s endless ways to spend your time: thrill-seekers can experience the rides, the little ones (and little ones at heart) can meet their favourite Disney characters, and movie nerds can visit one of the many attractions and exhibits dedicated to Disney. Elsewhere, the active can explore the various recreational activities on site, or if you really want, you can just unwind by the pool and take a dip to cool down. Anaheim Resort is also home to various restaurants, bars and shops, as well as a spa for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle for a brief period.
Outside of the Disney parks, Anaheim has plenty more to give. The newly renovated Packing district is full of places to wine and dine, and Downtown offers plenty of shops for holidaymakers in need of some retail therapy. There’s also the famous Anaheim Convention centre with a plethora of interesting events going on. Anaheim also has a rich culture, with the City National Grove and Pearson Park Amphitheatre putting on numerous shows and events.
Anaheim is just a short drive from the Pacific Ocean and a stunning 42-mile long sandy coast with waves that are renowned all over the world by surfers. Huntington Beach (colloquially known as Surf City USA) is particularly famous for its surfing pedigree. Also a short distance from Anaheim is Aliso Beach County Park, where you can snorkel, paddle board and surf, while over at Sunset Beach you can learn how to body-board and windsurf. Those who want to marvel at the wonders of nature can head to Laguna Beach, a spectacularly beautiful stretch of coast where you can scuba dive and explore tide pools. But if you just want to relax, San Clemente offers a wide stretch of sandy beach with child-friendly areas and various amenities nearby, so you can crack open a book and relax with the gentle sound of waves hitting the shore.
