Ibiza Town is piled up around a vast harbour, and is crowned by a walled citadel called the Dalt Vila (which means ‘Upper Town’). This is the historic heart of the city, and its enchanting cobbled streets have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Spend the morning ambling through its steep, whitewashed lanes, stopping to soak up the amazing views from the viewpoints by the 13th-century cathedral and the ajuntament (city hall). There are lots of fantastic cafés and boutiques to discover in the labyrinth of narrow streets.

The Dalt Vila has some excellent museums dedicated to everything from archaeology to contemporary art. You won’t be able to visit them all, but you could choose one or two to explore. Then stroll back down to the old port to enjoy a lazy lunch in the sunshine. The streets around the port are also great for shopping, with one-off boutiques, souvenir shops and a daily market in summer. Later on, hit one of the famous clubs – you can’t leave Ibiza without sampling its spectacular nightlife!

    Day two: morning

After a big night out on the town, you deserve a morning on the beach, soaking up some sun. You can hop on a ferry (or stroll for about 15 or 20 minutes) to reach the convenient beach at Talamanca. Long, sandy and lined with plenty of essential sun loungers and parasols, this is also a place to try some water sports – if you’ve got the energy. There are plenty of cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy a fabulous lunch with sea views.

Walk back to Ibiza Town’s huge harbour to get a glimpse of how the other half live in the Botafoc Marina. This is packed with super yachts and surrounded by glossy international fashion stores, plus a dazzling choice of bars, cafés and restaurants. Once the sun goes down, this area really comes alive, and is a fantastic place to enjoy a few cocktails as you watch the crowds ebb and flow.
