When it comes to proposals, it can be a worrying time for both parties. Why? Well, if you’re doing the proposing, you might be trying to think of when and where is the best place to get down on one knee. Once you’re there in the moment, pausing for the long-awaited ‘YES!’, your partner might be thinking ‘really?! Here and now, of all places?’ Overall, it’s a very special moment that everyone wants to get right. Sometimes, the simple trick of whisking your loved one away on a romantic trip abroad and popping the question there is your best bet. But, if you’re still not sure where you should put a ring on it, here are our top holiday spots to propose on.
Santorini is well-known for its fabulous sunsets and amazing views. Although the island can attract masses of tourists hoping for a chance to spot the multi-coloured skies. So, if Santorini is the place you want to propose, your best bet is heading over to Imerovigli. This small town is quiet, peaceful and a great outlet for escaping the crowds. If you’re up for the challenge, walk up to the top of Skaros Rock where you can enjoy the lovely sunset and surrounding sea views. Oh, and seeing as you might already be on one knee catching your breath, propose whilst you’re there!
Obviously, the city of love must get a mention on our top proposal holiday hotspots list. It’s only right! The French capital is a favourite amongst many and has plenty of romantic places to pop the question. We know you’re already thinking about taking your partner to the top of the Eiffel Tower… but that is almost too obvious nowadays. So, we recommend going somewhere a little more intimate and less crowded. The rooftop terrace at Hotel Raphael offers breath-taking views of Paris along with a remarkable restaurant and bar. On the other hand, a proposal at the Palais Royal Gardens allows you to be among the capital’s wonderful outdoors areas. Whatever time of the year you visit, these gardens are simply stunning.
Northern Lights, Iceland
If you’d consider yourselves to be quite an outdoorsy couple, this one is definitely for you. Wrap up warm and head to Iceland between September – April as this is the best time to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Although, this might be a risky proposal if you are relying on seeing the stunning skies. Staying in Iceland for a longer duration gives you a better chance of seeing the lights and making your proposal a success. Head to Grótta Lighthouse or Landmannalaugar for an unforgettable Northern Lights proposal and experience!
New York, USA
On a first thought, New York is synonymous with crowds of people, tourists taking selfies and an overall busy atmosphere. But, that doesn’t mean that you won’t find secluded, romantic spots in the city too (unless you want to propose in front of everyone in Times Square!) After a stroll in Central Park, stop off at Bethesda Fountain or Bow Bridge where you can pop the question. However, Central Park can be quite busy as times, so if you are hoping for a more intimate proposal, head there in the early morning.
Rome is yet another city which is best-known for its dreamy locations. But, once again it is a tourist hotspot meaning certain areas can get extremely busy. If you’re thinking about Trevi Fountain or the Colosseum, think again! They are both fantastic places to explore with your loved one, but for proposals, it can be too busy and hectic. Instead, try Piazza Campidoglio. During sunset hours, this square is so beautiful that even if there are people around, the location is worth it. On the other hand, Gianicolo Hill is another great spot which boasts views of ancient Rome.
