The Algarve has long been one of the most popular destinations for family holidays. Older teens will love the shopping and nightlife, making it a perfect all-round holiday destination.
Puerto Pollensa, Majorca

Playa Blanca, on the southern coast of the glorious island of Lanzarote, is a magical place for a family holiday. It’s now one of the biggest resorts of the island, but has managed to hang onto much of its authentic charm. Boat trips depart from the buzzy marina, and you can take your pick from the main beach, which has every possible amenity, to lots of quieter unspoilt beaches nearby if you’re looking for peace and quiet.
Javea, Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca is famous for its long sandy beaches – those at Benidorm are spectacular – but Javea offers a different kind of Spanish beach holiday with its magical little coves and bays. Lively enough to keep teens happy in the shops and cafés, it’s also got some fantastic hikes and cliff top walks if you’re an active family.
Marbella, Costa del Sol
Marbella is the belle of the Costa del Sol, an enchanting whitewashed town scented with orange blossom with stunning beaches. It’s a brilliant choice if you’re travelling with teens, with lots of nightlife, fabulous shops, but the beaches are also ideal for younger kids too. You can visit the wonderful ‘white villages’ inland, take boat trips, check out the super yachts in the marina, and there are lots of family attractions like water parks and theme parks within easy reach.
Mellieha Bay, Malta
Malta’s best sandy beach is found at Mellieha Bay, which is an idyllic family-friendly destination. The beach shelves gently, making it perfect for even the youngest kids, and the atmosphere is relaxed and low-key. The hotels here are well geared to families, with pools and special entertainment for the little ones. Malta is a tiny island, so everywhere is within an easy day trip, if you fancy visiting some of the enchanting cities like Valletta or Mdina.
Sicily is easily one of our favourite destinations for holidays with the family. Beaches, ice-cream, volcanoes and oodles of sunshine make it fun for kids of all ages! Cefalù’s beach is a gorgeous swathe of golden sand, with lots of water sports and handy amenities. And the old town is one of the prettiest on the island, full of inviting cafés and lovely squares where you can sit out with some of the famous gelato.
