You could head to the mega-clubs in popular resorts like Playa del Inglés or Maspalomas on Gran Canaria, or Playa de las Américas or Costa Adeje on Tenerife. Or gather with the locals to watch the amazing firework’s show in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. If you prefer something more low-key, all the smaller towns and villages host their own celebrations, often with live bands, street parties and fireworks.

    Ring out the New Year in style in gorgeous Portugal! The local tradition is to eat 12 raisins – one for each of the midnight chimes on the 31st December. There are street parties in Lisbon, the beautiful capital, and you should head to the castle of São Jorge for the best views of the fireworks exploding over the city below. Or dance through the historic streets of Porto, before eating your raisins with the enormous crowds gathered on the Avenida dos Aliados in front of Porto’s City Hall.
    The Algarve’s resorts put on a sparkling show for New Year’s Eve: the stunning Praia dos Pescadores beach in Albufeira is a magical place to watch the firework’s show, and is followed by an all-night party. Other top resorts for New Year’s Eve parties include Lagos, Portimão, and Faro. In Barbados, the 31st of December is called ‘Old Year’s Night’, and is celebrated with parties and firework displays on the beach. You could even take one of the cruises around the gorgeous coastline that take in the best of the firework shows. If you’re in the mood for a serious party, there are spectacular events in the big clubs in popular resorts like Cancun on the Riviera Maya or you could kick back at a beach bar in laid-back Tulum.
