Luckily, it is easy enough for you to experience the history and culture of other countries through our cheap holidays or a city break.     1) Mexico

    Chichen Itza

    Mexico was home to the Mayan civilisation. In deep territory within the Yucatan Peninsula are the ruins of one of the largest cities during the Mayan civilisation. You guessed it, we’re talking about the Chichen Itza. It has fast become a symbol of the Mayans and what they have left behind. Chichen Itza has a number of structures like temples, pyramids and palaces. History buffs will love this one as it is a mix of Mayan and Toltec civilisations. Due to these fascinating structures, Chichen Itza was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    2) Egypt

    Giza

    We can’t talk about history without mentioning Egypt. Ancient Egypt was a captivating time and history buffs alike can appreciate the amazing wonders you will find in this north African country. Namely, the Giza Plateau hosts a variety of impressive landmarks. These wonders include the Great Pyramid and the Great Sphinx, along with other marvellous pyramids and temples. With a visit here, you can’t help but gape at these icons of Ancient Egypt.

    3) Greece

    Acropolis of Athens

    Speaking of ancient times, Ancient Greece has to be at the top of any history buff’s list. Greece houses dozens of wonderful monuments which will send you back in time. There are many Ancient Greek ruins to be discovered here. But, perhaps the main attraction is the Acropolis of Athens. A well-known symbol of Greece’s past civilisation, this structure is 150 metres high above sea level. Here, you can also explore the Athena Nike temple and the Parthenon which is dedicated to the Greek Goddess Athena.

    Colosseum

    A city break to Rome should be enough to satisfy the history buff in you. With a walk around the city, you’ll see Baroque and Renaissance influenced buildings around. Moreover, there are many iconic symbols of Ancient Rome left behind here. The Pantheon, Arch of Constantine, Forum and of course the famous Colosseum. This huge amphitheatre is a sight to see, you can’t miss it.

    Taj Mahal

    It goes without saying that a trip to India is one for the history buffs out there. First and foremost, the Taj Mahal is a stunning landmark and also one of the Seven Wonders of the World. But, there is a historical story to match its beauty. In addition to the Taj Mahal, India is home to Khajuraho. The temples of Khajuraho are wonderful symbols of medieval architecture in India. They are made from sandstone and there are about 20 temples left from the original 85 that were built.

    The country’s capital of Budapest is simply stunning and a great place for a city break, and you will find an abundance of historical sights here. Roman and Medieval sites can be found around the city, but many are in ruins. Either way, you can still go back in time and witness the Aquincum and Matthias Church. Also, one of the highlights of Hungary has to be the Buda castle which is a sample of medieval architecture. Many museums can be found in Budapest, where you can learn about the country’s history.
