Being situated right on the southern coastline, seafood is the principal ingredient for many Algarvian dishes. The region is also the base of little fishing villages, meaning foods like grilled sardines have fast become a seaside snack. On top of that, you can expect lobster, squid and fresh colourful salads. The more inland you head, you can expect less seafood and more meat dishes like thinly sliced black pork ham, hearty stews and grilled meats. There truly is something for everyone to fall in love with in the Algarve.

Finally, a winter sun Algarve break will no doubt be an eye-opening experience in terms of discovering its rich culture and tradition.

Stroll through narrow cobblestoned streets where you can witness the Moorish influences that have been left behind in the Algarve. Explore structures that can be traced back to the region’s Moorish era, like the Castle of Silves. Located on a hilltop, this castle provides amazing panoramic views as well as several towers. Make your way over to Arco da Vila, a gorgeous archway which leads into the old town. The amazing thing is, it’s built along with the remains of the original Moorish wall.

Overall, winter sun holidays to the Algarve never disappoint. With bundles of culture, beaches and cuisine, there’s no reason as to why the Algarve shouldn’t be your next winter sun destination.
