The small, intimate Cortijo de Zahara reflects the more low key charms of the Costa de la Luz, the Atlantic neighbour of the Costa del Sol. You’ll still find southern Spain’s beautiful weather and some fantastic beaches, but there are the added attractions of pretty villages and some cracking surfing.

This high-quality complex also shows its Spanish character with some nice traditional décor, including traditional canopy beds in some rooms. Alongside the timeless things though, there are some very modern facilities and services that’ll suit you whether you’re after a family stay or a romantic getaway.

The low-rise buildings are surrounded by pretty gardens, where you’ll find a lovely, quaint pool. You may not spend long there, though, as the local beach is just 100m away from the hotel. This coast is quieter than its eastern neighbour, with Cortijo de Zahara itself being quiet area. You will find bars and restaurants within walking distance and just a little further along the coast is the resort of Zahara De Los Atunes, a nice little resort built behind a fabulous beach which is a favourite with surfers and kite fliers.

The relative lack of development along this coast means there are some excellent wild environments to discover. Close by cities have their attractions too: Chiclana de la Frontera is a great seaside town with a huge beach, whilst Jerez is world famous as the home of Sherry, and still has a rich historic and cultural scene with Moorish buildings and some excellent flamenco shows to check out.

This coast of Spain has so much to offer and if you’d like the weather, the food and the culture of Spain but a big resort isn’t your scene then take a look at the Cortijo de Zahara, available now through loveholidays.
