For a relaxing and comfortable stay on the Greek Island of Kos, the luxury 5-star Grand Blue Beach in Kardamena ticks all the boxes. The hotel boasts 70 family rooms and 152 twin rooms, with either a stunning panorama of the Aegean Sea or a lush garden view. The Grand Blue Beach is a fantastic holiday destination for couples, families, and those simply looking to swap the hustle and bustle of daily life for a slice of paradise.

On arrival at the Grand Blue Beach Hotel guests are greeted by friendly staff in a modern reception area, dominated by a magnificent double staircase. The staff all speak German, Italian and English, and will happily direct you around the hotel and to your rooms. Each room has free WiFi and the necessary facilities for a relaxing stay, and includes a fresh breakfast served every morning between 7am and 10am.

The lobby features a relaxing lounge area, as well as a bar and two restaurants, so you can drop off your bags in the spectacular rooms before enjoying the many amenities offered by the resort. The enormous freshwater outdoor pool has plenty of sun loungers, plus a pool bar for those much-needed refreshments in the blazing Greek sun, a children’s swimming pool, and a children’s play area in clear view.

A glorious shingle beach is only a 100m stroll away, and the hotel is located 23km from Kos Town. There are plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and discos in the city centre, perfect for guests looking to experience the culture and nightlife of this vibrant island. There are also supermarkets, tourist information shops and public transport stations for easy and convenient access, but the hotel has an on-site parking lot if guests wish to bring their own transportation.

Situated mid-way along the south coast of the Dodecanesian island of Kos, Kardamena is one of the most popular resorts in Greece, particularly with young Brits looking for a lively and entertaining holiday. Once a small fishing village, the town is now very commercialised with scores of English-style pubs and restaurants, and tightly packed apartment blocks. A wide variety of watersports can be organised from the long sandy beach and the Kardamena resort is well-placed for those who want to explore the island's fascinating interior.

The main beach in Kardamena is ideal for lazy days in the sun and for watersports - everything from pedalos to jet skiing and banana rides can be organised, as well as scuba diving and snorkelling. Other beaches with watersports are Banana Beach and Sovereign Beach. The aptly-named Bubble Beach is popular, and nearby Helona Beach is recognised by the Blue Flag programme. There are fascinating historical sites scattered around the island to see while on holiday, particularly in the capital Kos Town, 40 minutes away. Further afield, boat tours can be arranged to the spectacular volcanic island of Nisyros and to Rhodes (though be aware the journey takes almost three hours).

Restaurants

There is a wide choice of restaurants in Kardamena to suit all tastes, from Indian and traditional Greek to fast food joints and cafes offering full English breakfasts and Premiership football. Even those with a penchant for good home food should try the local fare, at least once. Good Greek restaurants include Andreas, Scala, the Chrisopoulos Family Taverna and El Greco, all on the seafront.

Nightlife

It's not quite Ibiza, but the nightlife in Kardamena is still fairly intense, with dozens of bars and clubs catering for all musical tastes, from indie classics in the aptly named Stone Roses Bar to cheesy pop in Cheeky Monkeys. The main nightclubs are Status, Starlight, Honey and Downtown, which all stay open until 4am, and 6am at weekends.

Shopping

Kardamena is packed with shops offering everything from designer clothes to tacky holiday souvenirs. Most are located around the main square. Good buys include the local jewellery and sponge (from the Nisyros volcano). For those in self-catering apartments, there are some good supermarkets offering most of the well-known brands. The two largest, both called Louis, are situated in the main square and by the bridge at the top of Main Bar Street. There are also some interesting local markets, including one on Bodrum, across the water in Turkey (Tuesdays).

Negatives

Holiday visitors should be warned that all the bars on the main strip along the Kardamena seafront have loads of touts working for them, trying to get tourists in, which can become annoying after a few nights. Drinks can be expensive, for Greece; it's best to stick to the local beers.

Hello this hotel will accept small groups looking for an higher level of accommodation but it is primarily a family hotel with the complex being just outside Kardamena, approx 1.2km from the harbour, village bars and tavernas.
